Plans - Monday.com

One of my aims last year when I started my EPQ was to stay organised. I definitely struggled towards the end of last school year trying to balance everything I normally do with mock revision on top. I also subsided a little in the holidays with my sign language learning, given that I found myself out of a routine.

Over the past year I tried planning many ways- all of which were very rigid:

  • My first plan was very specifically timed out- by the hour, day by day, which I soon learned was a very unrealistic reality.
  • My second plan had a slight improvement as it gave slightly more realistic expectations and more open ends. However, it still had very ambitious deadlines and focused more on the end goal rather than the in-between.
  • My next plan had a Gantt Chart structure which I liked for a while but had many faults and was not easy to read. What I did like about this plan though was the ability to track my progress with tasks, so it was important I found this feature in my next planning layout.
  • Lastly the plan I am now using is easy to edit, many formats making it easy to read, and separate sections for me to keep control of the tasks I am currently doing, need to do and completed.
This process has taught me to not be too rigid with planning, but enough so you can actually keep on top of the work. For me it is important that my plans are now interesting to look at and easy to read, so I don't get into the habit of loathing my plans.
I now use the website 'Monday' which makes all these criteria possible:
