What do I want to get out of my EPQ?
Whilst taking part in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) I hope to gain and improve a few things:
1) The first thing I would like to get out of my EPQ is to learn a new skill that will also open up carrier opportunities in my chosen carrier path somewhere in the health sector. I am hoping to find out the easiest way to learn sign language and find out how far I can go with learning it - i.e. having a conversation in sign language with a deaf person and/or a Level 1 certificate/ or filming myself signing.
2) In the past I have definitely struggled with presentations and in any sort of examination I get very stressed, therefore to be able to confidently perform a presentation on my chosen topic would be a massive achievement. My aim is to educate people in the room on learning sign language and the deaf community and deliver my point in a professional way. Improving my stress levels will help me with my A-level tests and not to get too worried when it comes to final examinations.
3) My third objective is to find out more about my chosen topic - the population of the deaf community and the exclusion they face in day-to-day life. This is a topic I'm starting to be really interested in, however it is also very quickly revealing the upsetting challenges around the deaf community in schools, workplaces and social life. Learning more about the daily challenges of the deaf community will help me to argue my topic further and educate others.
4) Lastly, I want to improve organisation skills. The independence of an EPQ requires a lot of organisation and I aim to keep a log of information and updates on how the project is going and want to to keep this up to date and consistent. Revising for A-levels also requires a lot of organisation, therefore if I am able to develop key assembling skills, Sixth-form life will be become much easier. To do this I want to improve my planning throughout my project
