6 month review

It has been 6 months since I started my EPQ and I have already come so far into my project. I have learnt about the history of BSL and the deaf community, facts about the deaf community in the UK and the world, the benefits of learning BSL, the Danial Jillings campaign and watched Rose Alying-Elis in Strictly. From this research I have began to understand the importance of spreading awareness in the deaf community.

I have watched 10 sign language videos where I have leant to sign many nouns, verbs and adjectives. Despite these videos having taught me a lot of the basics of sign language already, I need to take my progress further. I am going to start with the website British sign and Doncaster deaf sign. Both these websites have free level one courses. From what  have seen already British sign has more grammar and teaches more about sentence structure which would be more beneficial then simply learning terminology.

My next steps in terms of research will go towards looking at mental health in the death community, deaf role models and career paths in the deaf community.
