Hear Me Out

What's it about

'Hear me out' is charity founded by Phoebe Wallington to help young deaf people make new friends, have a community to go out and feel comfortable in, and do activities without having to feel anxious. It was set up just after Covid-19 restrictions began to lift and an amazing array of activities have already took place. The charity is also affiliated with the National Deaf Children's Society which is the UK's leading deaf children charity.

Events

Some events over the past 5 months have included: indoor rock climbing, soft play, butterfly house, bowling and ninja warrior. A deaf child being able to enjoy a day out as such as these not having to worry about their disability and purely have fun and feel completely at ease is a fantastic rarity for some of these children and this charity have allowed them to feel free and like a 'normal' child.

Volunteers

The charity has a range of volunteers from hearing to profoundly deaf, all passionate about wanting to make a difference to these young people's lives. Phoebe began learning sign language in lockdown, and decided to make an impact on young deaf people's lives soon after.

I reached out to Phoebe originally for advice on learning BSL and with interest of her charity. After talking and having an interview with Phoebe, she welcomed me onto her committee of volunteers. Hopefully soon I will help out at an event and begin making a difference in these children's lives.
