My Question

New question: Why is there stigma around the deaf community and how can this be removed?

Old question: How would it benefit the deaf community if British Sign Language could be taught in secondary schools?

My question has changed during my research into the topic because, in my opinion, the greatest way to benefit the deaf community is education and knowledge rather than solely BSL. Despite BSL being a beautiful language and having many benefits for personal reasons and in benefitting the deaf community, eradicating the stigma around deaf people and educating the population more on the deaf community would be much more beneficial and show much more progression in our society.

Update - 27/02/2023: Learning BSL: what have I learned about the issues facing the deaf community and how can these be improved?

Learning BSL: can I teach myself to an interpreter level of British Sign Language, in order to help understand some of the challenges facing the deaf community?
